93 - The Gore Gore Girls (1972)
Herschell Gordon Lewis, affectionately known as the “Godfather of Gore” was a brilliant marketer and an interesting filmmaker. It’s an honor to finally feature one of his films on the Grindbin.
Lewis was never known for his quality in filmmaking but he made his mark with shock value and delivering on what he promised. He was the master at pulling in an audience with lure of sex and violence and always delivering the shock required to get them coming back for more.
A man who relied less on budgets and advertising and more on word of mouth, Lewis was a staple of the grindhouse cinemas and drive-in theaters for decades. The Gore Gore Girls was one of his later works but an interesting case study in how he would soon grow to parody even his own work.
